Dr. Guillermo Alvarez Reviews and Ratings

“When I first decided to have the surgery, I was hesitant. After talking and meeting Dr. Alvarez, I knew I was making the right decision. Going to Mexico was an awesome experience I honestly felt like I was in a resort, not a Hospital. I had so many nurses taking care of me it was unreal. Dr. Alvarez also has a team of doctors that came to see me at least four times a day.” – Review from ObesityHelp

“I would recommend Dr. Alvarez and his team to anyone wanting to make a dramatic change in their life. My surgery was on May 3rd, 2012 and to date, I am down 27 lbs and am feeling better each day. I can hardly believe the difference in the way that I look and feel already.” – Review from ObesityHelp

  1. I had my surgery on 2/25/15 with Dr. Guillmero. I started my journey at 300 lbs and now 19 months later I am at 120 lbs and had the best experience there. I am now looking to go back for plastics and can’t wait to see everyone again!!

  2. In-patient care was great.
Detailed discussion/ explanation of liquid diet was inadequate.
Zero emphasis placed on electrolytes resulted in my Cardiac Arrest.

Telling me to “just keep doing whatever I was doing” during the 2 week liquid diet pre-op without a detailed conversation about what I was drinking doesn’t work.

Focusing on Protein Drinks without an equal emphasis on Electrolyte Drinks resulted in my Cardiac Arrest and Coma.

Outside of that hiccup, the care was decent and the staff seemed helpful. How would I even know what to ask? A few printouts for me to read isn’t enough.

Once you leave Mexico, the care/consultation they provide is non-existent.

I’m lucky and thankful to be alive. The procedure worked. I’m down 118 lbs, so far. I just shouldn’t have had to be brain dead for 15 minutes along the way.

  3. I’m intrested on weight llost surgery and wanted to now what I need to qualify and how much will it cost

  4. Good Afternoon!

I did look into a VSG with Dr. A about 4 years ago and couldn’t take the leep because my other half just wouldn’t hear of it being done in Mexico. Well, I have kept up with Dr. A thru blogs, etc….and would still consider him to do the surgery.

So now 4 years later I have Hypertension and I’m on medication, I have bone on bone knees, and I have just been diagnosed with Osteoarthritis in my L hip and back. I do need help and will have to decide its Dr. A or just fade away and get into a wheel chair.

  5. I had a gastric sleeve done by Dr. Alvarez in 8/2015. Everything went great, lost alot of weight. I started having stomach pain, nausea , and vomiting a few months back. They tell me I have a gastric stricture now. Worried about this. Have you seen this complication in any of your other patients? Thanks!

  6. I am bariatric patient had a mini gastric bypass 8 years ago
